Winter has come

Winter has officially come to our neck of the woods and it came in fast and cold!  The other day, the real feel was -29 and honestly, that is not the worst it can get.  My little penguins were trapped inside for 3 days and we had to find ways to keep ourselves entertained.  We watched a lot of movies, had afternoon dance parties and there was lots of playing.  We also did hot cocoa with marshmallows.  I wanted to bake, but I am down a few of the essential ingredients and have yet to make it to the grocery store.

With the weather only expected to get more frigid, I am looking for more things to do inside the house that are easy to clean up.  Here are some things I think will be fun to try  out while we are trapped inside.

Make a Gingerbread House

I’ve made a couple of gingerbread houses in the past, but never with my kids.  I’ve used both the kits and homemade recipe.  For the longest time, I had the templates I cut out for the house, but somewhere along the way, I must have thrown them away.  I found a recipe on the Food Network website I want to give a try.

Lots and lots of reading!

We love books. LOVE.  My kids have a ton of books and they all have their favorites.  When we go to the nearest city for shopping, we try to stop at Barnes N Noble, but that isn’t often.  The nearest city is a little over 330 miles from here.  When we do shop online, we generally go with Usbourne Books.  The kids look forward to picking out new books and we also help out a small business.  I have an amazing consultant I shop through and she’s always suggesting new books for us. Plus, the site has a ton of crafts you can do with your kids.

Pinterest crafts

I like pinning crafts to do with my kids.  In fact, while I was writing this, I pinned a couple more ideas to my kids activity board.  The windsocks were my favorite activity so far. We made a couple this past spring and they stayed hung up in the living room for the longest time.

I think there will be a lot of cold days this winter but lucky for us we are prepared!  What do you like to do with your babies when you are trapped inside?
