Late last night, my daughter’s cat had kittens. I knew something was up because she was acting funny. Her belly was so hard and she was mewing all over the house. The last time she had kittens, we were all asleep, so we missed out. This time, I was the only one up. I made her a little bed in one of our boxes and put her in it, but she kept getting out and following me throughout the house.
I went outside for a few minutes and when I came back in, she was laying by the back door with her first kitten. I quickly grabbed a towel and gently coaxed her and her baby onto it. She was huge so I knew there more to come. The second one was also born while I wasn’t looking. With her third kitten, she kept meowing loudly at me so I went and sat with her. I talked with her and told her she was doing a great job. Of course, in true cat fashion, she looked at me like I was crazy. I watched as a little foot emerged, then a tail and one final push and another kitten was in the world. She had two more kittens after that, which I also missed. I was so excited to wake my daughter up for school so she could see the newest litter.
I think I went to bed about 2:30 AM and woke up at 5:30 to get started on my morning routine. I was counting down the minutes until 7:00. It’s usually kind of difficult to wake my kids up, but this morning when I sat down next to my daughter and asked her if she wanted to see some kittens, her eyes sprang wide open. “They are so cute, Mom!” she exclaimed. It was a tough sell trying to get her ready for school. She wanted to stay home with them. I told her to pick out some names and to tell all her friends about her new babies. That got her going and she told me to watch them good while she was gone.
I’m not sure what we have in regards to males and females, but they sure are cute. I just love baby kittens.
